Highway 401 reopens across eastern Ontario after several crashes

Sections of Highway 401 were closed in eastern Ontario Tuesday morning as strong winds and snow squalls moved through the region.

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed between Reynolds Road and Highway 2 for five hours due to a jackknifed tractor-trailer, while there were multiple collisions west of Kingston that forced the highway to close.

As of 1 p.m., all lanes reopened in the Gananoque and Kingston area.

Just after 6 a.m., the OPP said emergency crews were on the scene of a jackknifed tractor-trailer in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Leeds County. All westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 were closed between Reynolds Road and Highway 2 due to the collision.

The road reopened at 11:45 a.m.

Ontario Provincial Police said there were multiple collisions on Hwy. 401 west of Kingston involving transport trucks.

“No serious injuries have been reported but the westbound lanes are closed in several locations between Kingston and Napanee,” the OPP said at 7:35 p.m.

As of 12:45 p.m., all westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 in Napanee reopened.
