Toronto driver ‘will have to find another way home’ after being stopped speeding 162 km/h on Ottawa highway

A Toronto driver will have to find another way to get back to Ontario’s capital after being stopped speeding 62 km/h over the speed limit on an Ottawa highway.

Ontario Provincial Police say an officer observed a driver going 162 km/h on Highway 417 on Tuesday.

“The driver had his licence suspended for 30 days and had his vehicle impounded 14-days,” Const. Michael Fathi said on X.

Fathi adds the driver faces a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points and a one-year driving ban upon conviction.

On Friday, a motorcyclist was caught going 95 km/h over the speed limit in Ottawa’s west end.

Ottawa police say an officer spotted the driver travelling 155 kilometres an hour after leaving a bike meet at Merivale Road and Meadowlands Drive.

The speed limit in the area if 60 km/h.

The driver was charged with stunt driving.
