Ottawa police say two drivers have been charged with stunt driving following two separate traffic stops this week. According to a news release from police, a 34-year-old man was charged on Wednesday after he was observed travelling 116 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Riverside Drive near Hunt Club Road. Police say the driver has had his licence suspended for 30 days and his vehicle impounded for 14 days. He has been charged with several offences, including stunt driving, speeding, failing to surrender a driver’s licence, having an obstructive window coating and failing to display two licence plates. A second driver was stopped shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday after officers observed a vehicle travelling 131 km/h in a 60 km/h zone near Navan Road and Tenth Line Road. Police say a 45-year-old man was charged with stunt driving and speeding following the incident. “These incidents come amid a concerning number of recent fatal collisions on Ottawa roads,” police wrote. Seven people have been killed on Ottawa roads this month, including a driver and a pedestrian who were killed in separate collisions on Wednesday. “The OPS reminds motorists that excessive speed significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death. Drivers are urged to slow down, obey posted speed limits and make responsible choices behind the wheel,” police said.
