Man charged in fatal motorcycle collision north of Belleville last spring

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 20-year-old man following a fatal collision on Highway 7 in Madoc, Ont. last Spring.

On April 27, 2025, shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers were responding to reports of a vehicle driving erratically on the highway when they found a collision involving the reported vehicle and a motorcycle.

The incident claimed the life of a 57-year-old motorcycle driver.

In a news release on Friday, police said they arrested and charged a 20-year-old driver from Toronto with dangerous operation causing death.

OPP officers were pursuing the vehicle at the time of the crash, which caused Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), a police watchdog, to invoke its mandate and investigate the incident.

Following an investigation, the SIU said they found “no basis for proceeding with criminal charges” in the case.
