Hot, humid weather in store for Ottawa this week, with little relief overnight

Hot and humid weather is expected over the next week in Ottawa. CTV’s Camille Wilson checked on how residents can keep cool.

This week will be hot and humid, with daytime highs in the 30s and muggy nights rarely dropping below 20 C.

Environment Canada’s weather forecast for Ottawa calls for a high of 30 C on Monday with a humidex of 32 and lots of sunshine. The UV index is 9, or very high.

Overnight, expect a clear sky and a low of 18 C, which is the coolest it will get this week.

“A prolonged period of very hot conditions is expected. Check on family, friends and neighbours, who are at higher risk, particularly if they live alone, to make sure they have a cool space,” Environment Canada says.

Tuesday’s forecast is mainly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers, a risk of a thunderstorm, and a high of 29 C with a humidex of 38. Tuesday night’s low is 22 C.

Canada Day has a high of 33 C, with a few clouds and a 30 per cent chance of showers. The low heading into Thursday is 23 C.

Thursday’s outlook is partly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 34 C, followed by a low of 23 C overnight.

Friday’s high is also 34 C with a 30 per cent chance of showers.
