One person has died and two people have been taken to hospital following what police will only call a serious incident in Chemainus.

The BC Coroners Service confirmed it has been called to an incident on Caswell Street Friday afternoon.

Emergency Health Services confirmed paramedics were also called to the scene.

Four ground ambulances and one air unit were deployed, but neither of the patients needed to be airlifted, EHS said.

One of the patients is in serious condition while the other is being taken out of precaution, according to EHS.

Details of what happened are unclear, but a source close to the situation speaking on condition of anonymity told CTV News there was a stabbing involving multiple people.

The source said one person was taken into custody at the scene.

Police are still on scene at Caswell Street.

While North Cowichan-Duncan RCMP wouldn’t confirm what happened, they say there is no threat to public safety.
