Two people dead following fire in Echo Bay

Fire crews battled a blaze in Sault Ste. Marie on Albert Street on Friday night. Separately, two are dead after an Echo Bay home fire, with OPP investigating.

Two people have died following a house fire in Echo Bay, Ont., late Friday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police say they were called to the scene on Highway 17B around 3:51 p.m., along with members of the Echo Bay & Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Sault Ste Marie Paramedic Service.

Not much is known at this stage about the cause. The OPP Crime Unit and forensics have been called in to investigate.
