The murder trial of Steven Jones continued Monday in the Sault. Jones is on trial for the death of Taylor Marshall, who was stabbed to death Sept. 7, 2023. The Toronto man is also charged with another stabbing that took place the same day on the city’s boardwalk, a few blocks away from the murder scene. Monday was the sixth day of the trial. Police have described both attacks as random acts of violence. Marshall’s body was discovered in a multi-residential building, while Liam Frenette, the man stabbed on the boardwalk, was seriously injured. Jones, 25 years old at the time, was arrested at the scene of the stabbing and was charged with murder and attempted murder. On Monday, three members of the Sault Police Service involved with forensics took the stand, outlining in detail what they saw at both crime scenes. The trial is expected to last up to eight weeks, with as many as 40 witnesses being called to the stand.
