Sudbury police dog finds stolen cash after convenience store armed robbery

Sudbury police search for assault suspect Police are on the look out for 20-year-old Brandon Leclair-Davey of Sudbury in relation to an assault & robbery in the city Sunday evening.

It was a team effort by Greater Sudbury Police Service on Tuesday night to apprehend a suspect and recover stolen cash after an armed robbery at a convenience store.

Officers were called to a Regent Street establishment shortly before 8:55 p.m. following the robbery, police said in a news release.

The suspect approached the counter, showed a knife and demanded money.

"As the employee was attempting to gather the cash, the individual grabbed the till from the register and fled the store on foot," police said.

"Officers arrived in the area and located an individual matching the description of the person responsible for the robbery. The individual was taken into custody without incident, however, upon searching the individual, officers did not locate the cash or the till."

K9 Roy, a police dog who turns three years old Wednesday, found the stolen till and cash during a search for evidence.

As a result, a 47-year-old man is charged with robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order.

He was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing Nov. 1.

The convenience store employee was not physically injured during the incident, police said.
