Gravenhurst erects fencing to deter geese from nesting and feeding in town parks

Beach park goers in Gravenhurst may be slightly dismayed to see black fencing bordering the water away from the shores in May,

The town has constructed a silt fence along the shoreline at Muskoka Bay, Muskoka Beach and Gull Lake beach parks until at least June.

While it might briefly deter early-season beach goers, it’s all part of Gravenhurst’s Canada Goose Management program.

In a statement on social media, the town posted, “The fencing is a temporary measure to deter geese from nesting and feeding in the parks and will be removed by the second week of June at the latest.

“This measure is in keeping with council’s desire to limit the goose activity in Gravenhurst parks this summer.”

In the interim, parks are closed to the public for cleanup following March’s ice storm and regular seasonal clean up.
