Greater Sudbury is working to connect customers with food trucks and other mobile food vendors this summer. Under its Food Truck Program, the city has designated public spaces and facilities where mobile food vendors can set up this summer. Kyle Marcus, Sudbury’s partnerships and outreach coordinator, said there are nine pre-vetted locations across the city, and he’d especially like to see vendors at Memorial Park, Ella Lake Park and near the old Canoe Club at Bell Park. “Either they have lots of recreation around them or people just walking, sports, tournaments, stuff like that,” Marcus said. “It’ll be beneficial to the vendor themselves.” Migs Food Truck is one of three mobile food operators already part of the Food Truck Program. The others are Mijo’s Grill, set up in the York Street parking lot across from Bell Park, and Papaya Pops at Nepahwin Park. This is the second year Migs set up in the parking lot at the municipal boat launch on Ramsey Lake. Opening day was Tuesday Tuesday was opening day for the food truck, owned by husband and wife Aaron and Cat Migwans. “Coming back here, so people know this is where we are,” Cat said, explaining why they wanted to be back at the same location this summer. “They know where we are -- they’ve been here before. They’re looking for the big, green food truck on Ramsey Lake Road,” Aaron added. The Migwans said the city helped them get all their permits and other requirements needed to operate their food truck at the municipal location. They suggest that any operator interested in the program should have their paperwork ready. “Health inspection, fire department, you also need criminal checks, food handlers,” Aaron said. “Having all these in line would probably save you a few trips to the city.” Marcus said he’s excited for Sudbury’s food scene this summer, particularly for mobile food vendors who could be popping up at the municipal sites. “This is just the next natural evolution, the next step is to get out there and see if we can bulk up the program, see if we can get more participation,” he said. “Sudbury has an incredible food scene and culture here.” Migs will be at its busy location all summer long and into the fall. However, Aaron said there may be several days when the food truck isn’t operational due to the couple’s catering commitments.
