A single vehicle crash in Kirkland Lake last weekend has resulted in impaired driving charges for a local resident.
On Dec. 22 at about 7 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision on Federal Street.
“Upon speaking with the driver officers determined the individual had consumed an alcoholic beverage,” said police in a news release.
“The driver was arrested and transported to the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment for further testing.”
As a result of the investigation, the 55-year-old driver was charged with careless driving along with two impaired driving offenses.
In addition to the charges, the accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle involved was impounded by police for seven days at the owner’s expense.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23 to answer to the charges.

“Kirkland Lake and surrounding area is reminded that whether someone is impaired by alcohol or drugs, impaired is impaired and driving under the influence of either is a criminal offence,” said police.
“If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 911 to report it.”
