Police seize $105K in fentanyl, meth, other drugs from Hearst motel

Two people from Constance Lake First Nation have been charged with drug trafficking and other offences following a police raid of a motel room in Hearst.

The arrests took place on the afternoon of June 3, leading to the seizure of drugs with an estimated street value of $105,000.

The operation was the culmination of an investigation centered on drug trafficking activity in Constance Lake First Nation, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service said in a June 4 news release.

Search motel room, vehicle

Armed with a search warrant, police also searched a motor vehicle, as well as the motel room.

“When police entered the motel room, they located and arrested two suspects without incident,” police said.

“Members of the OPP working out of the Hearst detachment assisted with the completion of the arrests.”

Police seized drugs believed to be fentanyl, meth, meth tablets, oxycodone tablets, suboxone tablets, cash, a replica firearm “and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking,” the release said.

Two people, ages 41 and 57, both from Constance Lake First Nation, are charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The 41-year-old is also charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, while the 57-year-old is also charged with weapons possession.

Both accused appeared for a bail hearing on June 4 and were remanded into custody with future court dates.

The investigation remains ongoing, police added.
