OPP charge two after $150K drug seizure on Highway 11-17

Ontario Provincial Police have seized an estimated $150,000 worth of suspected cocaine and oxycodone following a traffic stop east of Thunder Bay.

Officers stopped a vehicle along Highway 11-17 in the Municipality of Shuniah on April 25 at about 1:47 p.m., leading to the discovery of illicit drugs.

“During the roadside investigation, a vehicle search was conducted at which officers located what appeared to be cocaine & oxycodone pills,” OPP said in a news release.

Officers seized 1.1 kilograms of suspected cocaine and 1,967 pills of suspected oxycodone as part of the investigation.

As a result, a 32-year-old from Rama First Nation and a 32-year-old woman from Pickering have been charged with four drug trafficking offences.

The Rama resident faces an additional charge for failing to comply with a probation order.

Both accused were held in custody overnight and were scheduled for a bail hearing on April 26.
