Multi-day breaches of court conditions lands Sault man in custody

A 28-year-old local man is facing 11 charges after police in Sault Ste. Marie say he repeatedly attended a multi-unit residential building against court orders while disguised, then physically resisted arrest.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Division 2 Unit laid charges against the man on May 6.

Multiple violations over multiple days

Police said an investigation revealed that on May 2, 3 and 4, the accused violated the conditions of an undertaking and a probation order by attending a building in the 600 block of Wellington Street East.

“Disguising their face with a bandana on one of these occasions,” police said in a news release.

Authorities said further investigation on May 6, determined the accused had attended the same building again – again disguising his face with a bandana – and was still inside.

Taken into custody

“Officers conducted a door knock and the accused attempted to leave through a window,” said police.

“Once the accused exited through a door, they were arrested – despite physical resistance.”

The accused is charged with two counts of disguise with intent and one count of obstructing a peace officer. He also faces eight additional charges for failing to comply with an undertaking and a probation order.

The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
