Warning: This story includes graphic and disturbing details. Ontario Provincial Police say just after noon on Saturday, officers responded to a call at a residence on Noland Road in Hagar, east of Sudbury, to locate a man in distress. The 63-year-old man fled in a vehicle which was found on Murdock River Road near Highways 69 and 637, OPP said in a news release Oct. 18. “He was found inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said the province’s Special Investigations Unit in a news release Sunday. “The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene,” added OPP. As OPP officers were at the scene at the time of the man’s death, the SIU was notified and invoked its mandate. “As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information,” said police. The SIU is investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death – three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online. --- If you or someone you know is in crisis or struggling with mental illness, here are some resources that are available.
