Elliot Lake man charged with setting off fireworks too close to a crowd

A 47-year-old man has been charged with setting off fireworks near a crowd gathered to watch the main fireworks display in Elliot Lake.

A 47-year-old man has been charged with setting off his own fireworks near a crowd of people gathered at a beach to watch the main fireworks display in Elliot Lake.

Police responded around 10:20 p.m. Canada Day to a complaint about a man setting off fireworks at Spruce Beach.

The crowd was there “to watch the Canada Day fireworks over the water,” police said in a news release July 2.

“Police located the person on foot in the parking lot who was subsequently arrested.”

He was searched and police found three bottles of vodka mix drinks and numerous suspected methamphetamine pills.

The Elliot Lake man was charged with failing to comply with an appearance notice, drug possession, being drunk in public and violating a probation order.

He was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on July 2.
