Construction season underway in North Bay

Construction starts this week at North Bay’s wastewater plant. Minimal impacts expected, but noise and activity increase on Memorial Drive and Kate Pace Way.

Work on two infrastructure projects started Monday in North Bay, which will result in temporary lane restrictions and closures in different areas of the city.

Rock scaling work is being done on Cassells Street, including on the inbound curb lane and sidewalk across from Victoria Street. The area will be closed for three days starting Monday to allow for rock scaling work.

“This work is being completed to improve slope stability and enhance public safety,” the city said in a news release.

“Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution when travelling through the area.”

At the same time, culvert replacement work is taking place on Four Mile Lake Road.

That means traffic on the road, between Springdale Road and Stanley’s Road, will be reduced to one lane for about a week.

“One lane will remain open at all times,” the city said.

“Delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time or consider alternate routes where possible.”

Memorial Drive activity

Also this week, construction activities are beginning at the wastewater treatment plant on Memorial Drive.

“Several infrastructure projects are scheduled for spring and summer, with minimal impacts expected in the surrounding area,” the city said.

“Most of the work will take place within the plant’s property limits, however, residents may notice increased construction activity, including periodic noise and minor traffic disruptions along Memorial Drive and the Kate Pace Way.”

The work includes rehabilitation of the administrative building, a roof replacement and wastewater system upgrades “to help keep this crucial municipal infrastructure operating safely and efficiently.”

In addition, starting this fall, the city will begin a major upgrade at the wastewater treatment plant to replace a key intake component that manages how wastewater enters the facility.

“This work will take place over an extended period, and further details will be shared with residents as the project schedule is finalized,” the city said.

“The city will make every effort to minimize disruptions and appreciate the public’s patience as this work is completed.”
