It took a little longer than the rest of the province, but there is now a full slate of people who put their names forward to represent constituents in Fauquier-Strickland. No one entered the race by the Aug. 21 cutoff date, prompting the deadline to be extended until Aug. 26. A post on the township’s social media page lists the candidates, with current councillor Pierre Lamontagne the sole candidate for mayor in the community. Six people came forward to run for four seats on municipal council: incumbent Priscilla Marcoux and new candidates Lawrence Davidson, Gaetan Gagnon, Bruce Kitching, Nicole Lamontagne and Juanita Miscio. The community made headlines last summer when it faced a financial crisis and needed a bailout from the province to continue operating. A property tax hike of about 80 per cent was recommended to help the town of about 400 residents deal with a $2.5 million debt, but the previous council only approved a 20 per cent hike. The provincial election is Oct. 26.
