A 61-year-old man is facing charges following an incident in downtown Sault Ste. Maire last week. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says officers with its Division 2 Unit were dispatched to the area of Albert Street East and Gore Street around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 3 following a 911 call reporting a disturbance. “An investigation revealed the accused attempted to strike a victim with a broom and a metal pole while verbally threatening to harm them,” police said in a news release Tuesday. Investigators said the victim and the accused are known to one another. Despite the allegations, authorities confirmed no one was hurt in the encounter “No physical injuries were reported,” police said. The local man has been charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 23.
