Ontario Provincial Police say the East Algoma detachment is investigating a fatal fire that broke out early Sunday morning in Blind River. Officers and the local fire department were called to a house fire on Queen Street around 1 a.m. June 15, OPP said. One person was found dead in the fire, but the identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed. “Upon arriving on scene, fire crews reported smoke and flames visible from the structure and began suppression activities immediately,” the town said in a news release Monday. “Twelve firefighters and four fire vehicles were deployed for the response. One person passed as a result of this fire.” The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. “Any person with information regarding this incident should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122,” OPP said. “Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- 8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.”
