Two people are in custody and facing multiple charges after police executed a search warrant at a Maple Street residence on Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island, seizing more than $36,000 in suspected illegal drugs. The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police, carried out the warrant on July 29, 2026. The operation followed a report from Wiikwemkoong Security By-Law Enforcement about a suspicious vehicle entering the territory during the early morning of July 27. Seizure, charges “Officers seized more than $36,000 in suspected illegal drugs and recovered property connected to a previously reported theft,” police said in a news release. A 42-year-old local woman and a 37-year-old man from Toronto were each charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. Both accused were held for bail hearings and have been remanded into custody. A third female was arrested on outstanding warrants, police said. Community partnership Wikwemikong Tribal police Chief Ron Gignac commended the collaborative effort behind the investigation. “This investigation is an excellent example of community partners working together toward the common goal of protecting Wiikwemkoong,” Gignac said. “WTPS remains committed to protecting our community from the harms associated with drug trafficking.”
