A murder trial got underway in BC Supreme Court Monday for a man accused in a second-degree murder that took place in Fernwood in 2010.

Andrew Jonathan Belcourt is accused of using a firearm in the second-degree murder of 52-year-old Leslie Hankel.

Hankel was found dead in his apartment in the early hours of March 3, 2010.

Belcourt, who pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge, had offered to plead guilty to manslaughter, but that was rejected by the Crown.

His jury trial is scheduled to last five weeks.

It’s the second time the case has gone to trial.
