A woman is lucky to be alive after she lost control of her truck and it collided with a concrete barricade on a busy highway on Sunday.

The single-vehicle crash happened just after 11 p.m. on the Trans-Canada Highway at Whittaker Road.

According to the Malahat Fire Department, the woman driving the Nissan truck is in her 30’s.

She was checked by paramedics on scene and released.

Witnesses told fire crews she was doing “nearly the speed of sound.”

No one else was injured in the crash.

All northbound lanes were shut down for about an hour.
