Severe thunderstorm watch in effect, storms could intensify this afternoon

London and area weather for June 25, 2026.

Favourable conditions are developing for severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail in the region.

According to Environment Canada, storms are expected to intensify early this afternoon and continue through the evening hours.

“We’re looking at severe thunderstorm warning, a blanket right across southern Ontario,” cautioned CTV Meterologist Gary Archibald. “This spin of low pressure that’s hovering over southern Ontario is the culprit that could induce on its reverse side, that circulation counterclockwise, could induce some thunderstorms.”

A large amount of rain is expected to accompany those thunderstorms, with some locations throughout the region including London expecting in excess of 20 millimeters of rain.

This will be accompanied by gusting winds that could cause real damage, “we have projections of gusts in excess of 80, some topping out at 90 [km/h],” warned Archibald.

Once the storms have intensified there is a risk of a brief tornado.

Residents are urged to monitor conditions closely and be prepared to take shelter if necessary.

Saturday will be cloudy with sunny breaks, but the real turn comes on Sunday, when temperatures are expected to shoot up to around 30 degrees.

All outdoor pools will open for the season on Saturday.
