‘It’s going to be hot’: Temperatures to climb Friday with chance of rainfall and thunderstorms

Hot and humid weather is in store for the London region. Here's CTV's Julie Atchison what what people can expect.

Temperatures above the seasonal average are in store for the Forest City starting Friday, with some much-needed rainfall also in the mix.

According to CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison, Friday will start off with a mix of sun and cloud, and wind gusts of up to 40 km/h. The winds will usher in warm air into the region, causing temperatures to soar to 31 C in the afternoon, feeling like 33 with the humidity.

London’s extended dry spell will also end on Friday, with the possibility for some much-needed rainfall.

“We have showers and thunderstorms potential as we head into tonight. So, Friday night into Saturday morning, the risk for rain. We need the rain after about 11 dry days in a row,” said Atchison.

Atchison says the rain and possible thunderstorms will arrive heading into Friday evening, with a 30 per cent chance of showers changing to a 70 per cent chance of showers near midnight. The overnight low will dip down to 19 C.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the temperature dips to 25 C on Saturday which Atchison says is “still quite warm for this time of year.” It will be mostly cloudy, with a 60 per cent chance of showers.

Temperatures start to climb back up on Sunday, with a high of 27 C. There will be a mix of sun and cloud and a 30 per cent chance of rain.

The pleasant temperatures of last week will be history as temperatures hovering around 29 C to 30 C are in store going into the start of the new workweek.

“Steamy temperatures. It is going to be hot,” said Atchison. “Now what you’ll notice next week is the humidity, so it’ll feel like the mid 30s.”
