Weather station reports wet, but not overly hot, June

The biggest weather story in June wasn't the heatwave. CTV's Tony Grace explains.

Despite a recent heat wave that gripped Waterloo Region in late June, the month was fairly average in terms of temperature.

The latest data from the University of Waterloo’s E.D. Soulis Memorial Weather Station said the overall temperature last month was just 0.2 degrees Celsius above average.

The hottest temperature recorded by the weather station was 32.5 degrees Celsius.

A monthly summary also noted a few days, starting on June 13, when the temperature fell from 27.3 degrees Celsius in the afternoon to settle at 8.1 degrees Celsius by the morning of June 15.

It was also a wet month, with 102 mm of precipitation recorded compared to the average of 71 mm.

June 17 and 18 were the rainiest days of the month, when 13.2 mm and 29.6 mm of rain fell.

The weather station’s data showed 523.4 mm of precipitation fell in the first half of the year, compared to the average of 416.1 mm.
