A Mascouche man recently reached an incredible milestone — his 110th birthday. On July 7, Joseph Arthur celebrated his birthday with family. This weekend, he’ll be celebrating at a party with 110 guests. Arthur keeps his mind sharp with crosswords and says moderation is the key to his longevity. Aside from using a walker, Arthur is autonomous and says he has energy for almost anything. “Don’t go too overboard in life,” Arthur said. Aside from using a walker, Arthur is autonomous. Arthur was born on July 7, 1916, in Saint-Marc, Haiti. His son Harold says his father was a very smart student. ”He was correcting the teachers and all this kind of thing. So, he then studied and became a public servant for the government," Harold said. Arthur emigrated to Canada in the 70s and worked hard in his community. “He was part of an organization that was helping older people and immigrant people. So he’s very well known,” Harold says. Monique Fareau, Arthur’s daughter-in-law, calls Arthur a “supercentenarian” now - and the patriarch. According to Fareau, Arthur has ten kids, 25 grandkids, and 15 great-grandkids. “I like to talk with him,” his 8-year-old great-granddaughter, Olivia Simmons, said.
