The Region of Waterloo will be receiving $3.4 million in provincial funding to help expand transit services in Woolwich, Wellesley, Wilmot and North Dumfries. The money is part of a larger $16 million announcement from the provincial government through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund. On Tuesday, they said the latest round of funding would be used to support five projects that will impact 30 communities. “The support from the Ontario Transit Investment Fund will help us deliver new and improved transit connections for residents living in and travelling to Waterloo Region’s townships,” Waterloo Region Chair Karen Redman said in a news release. “By supporting new and expanded Grand River Transit service, the province is helping us improve access to jobs, services and community destinations while building a more connected and sustainable region. We are grateful for this partnership and the opportunity to move our Township Transit Strategy forward.”
