Some of the best amateur golfers in Canada gathered in Brantford for the 2026 Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship. The 72-hole stroke play championship was conducted by Golf Canada for athletes who are 25 or older. This year’s event was held at the Brantford Golf and County Club from Aug. 18 until Aug. 21. “We are known as the fourth oldest club in North America, having been founded in 1879,” explained Bob Herron, tournament chair of the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship. This is the first time the Brantford Golf and Country Club has hosted the event since upgrades were done in 2021, including topography modifications and improvements to the bunkering and sand traps. Although it is billed as a Canadian championship, some golfers from south of the border also made the trek up to take part. “We have players from Jupiter, Fla. We have them from Alabama, we have them from Arizona, we have them from New York state,” Herron said. After the second round of play, Garrett Rank from Elmira was sitting atop the leaderboard. “When you can sleep in your own bed and play a course that you’re pretty familiar with, it definitely helps,” Rank reflected.
