Arrest made in sexual assault investigation

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a suspect wanted for a sexual assault in Cambridge.

On Monday, around 4:15 a.m., a man “forcibly” entered a home on King Street East.

“The suspect made threats of a sexual nature toward a 63-year-old female victim,” a media release said. “A brief struggle occurred and the suspect fled the residence.”

According to police, the suspect then returned to the home but took off, once more, when the victim called for help.

The woman was not hurt.

Police identified the suspect as a 33-year-old man and shared his photo, explaining he was wanted for sexual assault and three counts of break and enter.

They also warned that, due to the seriousness of what he was accused of, the public should not approach the man.

Officers arrested him early Thursday morning.
