Edmonton carjacking suspect arrested in northern Alberta after Canada-wide warrant

The man who allegedly carjacked a taxi from north Edmonton on Sunday has been arrested in northern Alberta.

Edmonton police were called to the carjacking scene in the area of 151 Street and 111 Avenue on Sunday at 1:45 p.m.

The suspect was seen in St. Albert later that afternoon, prompting RCMP to issue a shelter-in-place for residents in the Riverside neighbourhood.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for David St. Cyr, 34, for theft of a motor vehicle with violence.

On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Wabasca RCMP became aware that St. Cyr was in their region, about 330 kilometres north of Edmonton.

A containment area was set up and several surrounding businesses were evacuated for precautionary reasons.

Shortly before 2 p.m. St. Cyr was taken into custody.

In addition to the charge out of Edmonton, he has been charged with break and enter to residence, theft of motor vehicle and obstructing a peace officer.

He is set to appear for a bail hearing on all his matters on May 19.
