Health Canada reissues gas boiler recall as company will cease North American operations

Several models of Prestige Solo, Prestige Excellence and Aerco Esteem Gas Boilers have been recalled due to risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Health Canada has re-announced a recall of several Triangle Tube gas boilers after reports of carbon monoxide leaks and two deaths in the United States.

“The boilers can release carbon monoxide (CO) due to delayed ignitions or component damage, posing a risk of serious injury or death,” the notice read.

The joint recall, issued with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and manufacturer Triangle Tube, covers Prestige Solo, Prestige Excellence and Aerco Esteem wall-hung condensing gas boilers sold between December 2011 and April 2019.

The recall was first issued in February and is being re-announced as the company will stop operating in North America at the end of 2025. Health Canada says consumers should arrange inspections and repairs “as soon as possible.” The company will also ship a free CO alarm to consumers who do not have one.

As of Nov. 20, Health Canada says it has received no reports of carbon monoxide leaks, injuries or deaths in Canada. In the U.S., officials have logged 25 reports of CO leaks and two deaths linked to the recalled boilers.

Consumers are urged to contact Triangle Tube immediately to schedule a free inspection and, if needed, the free installation of a replacement ignition system. Health Canada says anyone continuing to use the boilers while awaiting repair should have working carbon monoxide alarms on every level of their home and outside sleeping areas.

About 7,500 affected boilers were sold in Canada and roughly 60,000 in the U.S. The units were manufactured in Belgium.
