A section of the popular Galloping Goose Trail will be closed to cyclists and pedestrians this weekend, the Capital Regional District says.

The closure will affect the stretch of the trail between Grange and Belgrave roads on March 17 and 18.

Signs have been posting along the trail informing users that they'll have to take a temporary detour while construction is underway.

As part of the multi-million dollar McKenzie Interchange project, crews will complete rock-scaling operations along the section of trail to prepare for construction of a retaining wall. Work will also be done reinforce the trail's foundation.

The Ministry of Transportation said work was scheduled for daytime as opposed to night because of the precise nature of the work.

The pathway is expected to reopen for public use on Monday.
