Foul play is suspected after burned human remains were discovered in a vehicle on First Nation land in Port Renfrew.

Sooke RCMP say officers were called to the Pacheedaht First Nation just after 10 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a burned vehicle and possible remains inside.

Investigators did find remains inside the grey 2004 Pontiac Grand Am and called in the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, as well as the BC Coroners Service and a forensics team.

The death has been deemed suspicious and the victim’s identity has yet to be determined.
