The parent company of Edmonton’s National Hockey League team has a new chief executive officer. OEG Sports & Entertainment (OEGSE) announced Wednesday morning that it has hired Hugh Weber to the position. The Tacoma, Wash., native replaces Jürgen Schreiber, who moves into an executive chairman role at TS Retail Enterprise, a separate arm of Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz’s corporate empire. “OEGSE has an extraordinary collection of teams, venues, businesses and development opportunities, supported by deeply committed people and some of the most passionate fans in sports,” Weber said in a media release. “I am honoured to join the organization and look forward to working with Daryl, the leadership team and everyone across OEGSE to build on its success, strengthen the organization and pursue the considerable opportunities ahead.” Most recently the president of Seattle’s professional men’s and women’s soccer teams for the last three seasons, Weber was president of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment from 2017-22. Its portfolio includes the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and the Prudential Center, the Devils’ home arena. Weber also served as president of the NBA’s New Orleans Hornets from 2005-12 before joining the Devils as their president in 2013. OEGSE said in the release that, as part of the changes announced Wednesday, “OEG Inc. will transition to DAK Holdings Corp., the parent holding company of OEGSE, TS Retail Enterprises and OEG Hospitality.” It also said that “DAK Capital will remain separate as the Katz family office and investment platform.”
