A 36-year-old man is facing an arson charge after a fire was lit at a landfill near Drayton Valley, Alta., over the weekend. Mounties and fire crews responded to the fire around midnight on Saturday. After speaking with witnesses in the area, officers determined a man had intentionally set fire to a large pit containing plastics and waste fuel. Fire crews worked with heavy equipment to contain the flames while Mounties provided security and searched the area for a suspect. The fire was extinguished at 3:40 a.m. RCMP found a man walking on Highway 22 around 4:15 a.m. and arrested him. The 36-year-old resident of Hinton now faces arson, mischief over $5,000, and uttering threats charges. He was remanded into custody and is to appear in court on Aug. 4.
