Edmonton police and firefighter unions reach deal with city

The City of Edmonton has secured a new collective agreement with both Edmonton Fire Fighters’ Union (EFFU) and Edmonton Police Service Senior Officers’ Association (EPSSOA).

City council has voted to accept the tentative deals ratified by both unions, which finalized the bargaining process, according to separate news releases from the city on Wednesday.

EPSSOA, whose members agreed on a new contract last Friday, solidified a four-year deal that began December 2023 and will end on Dec. 11, 2027.

Members are set to receive a 3.3 per cent increase in 2026 and a 3.75 per cent increase in 2027.

EPSSOA members will also see an increased health care spending account, a re-balanced clothing allowance and increased maternity benefits among other items.

Meanwhile, the city said EFFU became the last of all seven unions and associations representing city workers to reach a deal that will last until December 2027.

Their settlement agreed on a four per cent wage increase in 2026 and 3.4 per cent increase in 2027.

It also outlines increased shift differential pay and increases to health care spending accounts, tool allowances and medical coverage.

The city said they were actively working to implement the new changes with both groups.
