With Heritage Days just around the corner, festival organizers are advising visitors that tents are not suitable to shelter in place. The Edmonton area has seen intense storms and an unprecedented volume of rain this summer which has caused flash flooding throughout the city. “In the event of a severe weather warning, such as a thunderstorm or a tornado, seek appropriate shelter away from open areas, trees, and mental structures including temporary tents until the warning has passed,” said a statement from the city Tuesday. The rain has led to some operational adaptations that have required organizers to restrict vehicle access to hard surfaces and pathways. “Despite the weather-related challenges, festival infrastructure set-up is nearly complete,” said the city, adding that tent installation has proceeded on the grass as planned. The festival, which celebrates cuisines and cultures from around the world, will be held at the newly rehabilitated Hawrelak Park from Aug. 1 to 3.
