Roads closed downtown as metal falls from Plus 15 walkway

Fire crews work to fix metal panels that fell from Calgary's Plus 15 network on April 23, 2026.

Calgary police say emergency crews were on scene downtown Thursday afternoon after chunks of metal panels fell off of the Plus 15 network.

Police say officers were called to 2 Avenue S.W. between 3 Street S.W. and 4 Street S.W. just after 5:30 p.m. after high winds tore metal panelling from the city’s pedestrian skywalk that runs between Devon Tower, Millenium Tower and the Sheraton Eau Claire.

Video footage from the area shows several large loose sheets of metal along the bottom of the walkway hanging down and blowing in the wind.

Officers say no injuries or additional property damage was noted, but 2 Avenue S.W. is closed between 3 and 4 Streets S.W. until fire crews can clear the area.

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area.
