Police arrest third person for fatal shooting in Amherst, N.S.

Police have arrested the third person in connection to a fatal shooting in Amherst, N.S., earlier this month.

Michael James Ryan, 34, was arrested in Moncton on Thursday afternoon, according to a news release from the Amherst Police Department.

Police issued arrest warrants for Ryan, Sean Eugene Patriquin, 56, and Natasha Deborah Austin, 42, on April 16 in connection to the death of Chris Leggett. Codiac RCMP arrested Autin and Patriquin in Moncton.

Officers responded to a reported loud bang near a homeless shelter on Prince Arthur Street in Amherst around 6:51 p.m. on April 13. They found an injured man on the ground who appeared to be wounded with a single gunshot to the lower back.

The man, 41-year-old Chris Leggett, went to hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Patriquin and Austin have been remanded into custody and are expected to appear in court on May 6.

Ryan is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
