Rick Galbos, a former running back for the Calgary Stampeders, died Saturday at the age of 75. The team announced Galbos’ death on social media. The American played for the Stamps between 1973 and 1977, serving primarily as a blocking back for Canadian Football Hall of Famer Willie Burden, who rushed for a franchise record high 1,896 yards in 1975, which still stands. Burden died in 2015. Galbos won a national U.S. college championship in 1970 with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Over the course of his Stampeder career, Galbos rushed 277 times for 1,244 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 172 receptions for 2,016 yards and eight more touchdowns. Galbos joined the Montreal Alouettes late in the 1977 season and was part of their Grey Cup-winning roster. Galbos lived in Calgary after retiring from the CFL and worked in construction. He was also an assistant coach for the University of Calgary Dinos.
