Waste recycling truck crashes into house

Police continue to investigate a crash after crews were called to a house on Benson Drive in Barrie.

Emergency crews were called to a west-end Barrie, Ont., residence Wednesday afternoon after a waste recycling truck crashed into a home.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Benson Drive. Barrie Fire Services confirmed to CTV News that no injuries were reported. City officials, including the building department, as well as hydro and gas services, were also dispatched to assess potential damage and safety concerns.

Homeowner Kirstie Nevitt arrived home shortly after the crash happened and spoke with CTV Barrie at the scene.

“I came home from work and there is a garbage truck in my garage,” Nevitt said. “There’s some structural damage. It hit the Mustang, and we were told there was no driver. The driver had gotten out of the truck to collect garbage, and the truck revved and drove into our garage.”

Barrie Police is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
