Residents at Barrie long-term care facility make sure no children go without Christmas gifts

There’s that festive feeling at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf in Barrie—folks there are stepping up this holiday season to make sure no child goes without a gift.

For the second year in a row, residents raised funds and headed out to the stores to shop for children in need.

“They didn’t just raise some money and give us a check; they actually took the time to go out and pick out toys that they thought would be a good fit for kids and also gave them the opportunity to go out and shop and enjoy the Christmas spirit as well,” a representative from the Salvation Army told CTV News.

The presents were donated to the Salvation Army—turning kindness into holiday cheer for families in the community. And it’s support for the Salvation Army Bayside Mission, which says it is needed more than ever.

The Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf is a long-term care facility which is specifically designed to meet the needs of deaf seniors. According to its website, emphasis is placed on communication and eliminating the isolation many deaf seniors experience, while offering services to hearing seniors.

New this year, the Salvation Army is also operating a family emergency shelter that currently supports 12 families in need.
