Major Innisfil intersection undergoes safety upgrade

The lights have been switched on at the busy intersection of Big Bay Point Road and 20th Sideroad in Innisfil.

The new traffic signals are now in full operation, marking a permanent change in the area that has drawn growing concern from residents.

Town officials previously stated that the decision for the project came after numerous complaints about heavy traffic and a noticeable increase in collisions at the intersection.

Situated along the border between Barrie and Innisfil, this is a big safety upgrade for one of the area’s busiest crossroads that serves as a key route for drivers traveling between the city and Friday Harbour Resort.

It is just one step in a nearly $200,000 reconstruction project that will bring new turn lanes, road widening, and a multi-use path to the corridor, with completion expected by 2028.
