Kayakers lose their way in storm near Waubaushene

The uneasy weather on Saturday caused a couple of kayakers to lose their way.

At around 5:30 p.m., officers were called to a report of the pair of kayakers, a 29-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, who were lost in the waters during a sudden storm near Waubaushene.

Emergency services, including Tay Fire, Joint Rescue Coordination, County of Simcoe Paramedics and Southern Georgian Bay OPP, were all involved in the search. The OPP deployed its marine unit, patrol officers and helicopter.

While crews were searching, the duo managed to get to shore and walked to a home.

Police say they met with the kayakers to confirmed they were unharmed with no injuries.

Environment Canada had much of Simcoe County under a yellow severe thunderstorm watch on Saturday.
