Smoke streamed across the Barrie sky as a home burned at dinner time Sunday. Flames shot out of the back of the house as firefighters reached the home on Livia Herman Way around 6:30 p.m. Five people were at home when the smoke alarms went off. A 51-year-old man who re-entered the home to help someone believed to be in the basement suffered serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition. Police say firefighters found a person who had died inside the heavily damaged house. The person has not been identified. Barrie police say three people escaped unharmed. “The majority of the house was on fire, its was a large fire,” said Barrie Fire & Emergency Service’s Rachel Chinchilla, Assistant Deputy Fire Chief. Four firetrucks battled the well-involved blaze, she said. “It’s being investigated. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office will be there today,” Chinchilla said.
