Hewitts Farm is marking a major milestone this month as it celebrates 50 years of growing sweet corn. “50 years of corn, 50 years of memories, and another great crew helping us bring in this year’s crop,” the team wrote in a social media post. The Severn farm says sweet corn season is about more than just harvesting a crop. For decades, it has given young people valuable work experience, with many earning their first paycheque at the farm. “For some, it’s their very first job. For others, it’s another summer spent working alongside friends and familiar faces,” Hewitts Farm Market wrote. Young workers can learn how to pick, sort and harvest the grain all while developing skills in teamwork. Staff says some workers stay for one season, while others return year after year. Many former employees still visit the market and share memories of summers spent working in the corn fields. Hewitts Farm Market is located at 3331 Townline in Severn. Staff at the farm says plans are also underway for a 50th anniversary party, with more details expected to be announced.
