Nearly 50 musicians from across the Maritimes have come together for a new collaborative holiday project celebrating unity, creativity and East Coast pride. The initiative, known as the 902 Christmas Unity Project, is led by 44 ProductionsNS and brings together 49 artists to record a song titled “We Are The 902.” The track is inspired by the global classic “We Are The World” and aims to showcase the depth and diversity of the province’s music community. Artists from Cape Breton, mainland Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are featured on the song, which includes seven locally produced beats and seven creative choruses. Project creator and local music promoter Tanar Repchull says the focus of the project goes beyond music. “We want to show that when Nova Scotians come together, amazing things happen. This is about unity, creativity, and showing the world what 902 artists can do,” said Repchull. The track was mixed and mastered by David MacPhee, with Dave Sollows finalizing the mix. Graphic design for the project was created by Luke Hiltz, also known as Luke 2.0. “We Are The 902” will be released worldwide on Dec. 24 at 10 a.m. on YouTube.
