Six-year-old makes art to give back to IWK hospital

Artistic six-year-old Wyatt Veinotte draws-up support for the IWK.

Six-year-old Wyatt Veinotte had a long journey with Halifax’s IWK hospital – one that inspired him to give something back.

Wyatt was born with a cleft palette. At three months old he had a cleft lip repair. Two years ago, he had a bone graft. Now his mother Brittany Veinotte takes him for yearly checkups.

“Most of the journey’s over but he’s been through quite a bit,” Brittany says.

Wyatt’s mother says he loves artwork “and he’s very kind and generous.”

“That’s one of the things that we hear back a lot from teachers or just friends,” Brittany says. “He’s always thinking of others.”

Wyatt came up with the idea to draw pictures for kids at the IWK. He sells them to family and friends and uses the money to buy and donate toys.

“He’s also always thinking of ways to earn money so it was nice that he kind of put both together,” Brittany says.

Wyatt dropped off his donated gifts to the IWK last Thursday.

“I wanted them to have toys for Christmas,” Wyatt says.

Brittany says she and Wyatt’s grandparents are proud of him for doing something to help kids in hospital.

“This was just like something extra special around the holidays that really touched our hearts.”
